I'm wondering now if they might kill Martin off? Gail and David go to New Zealand for the funeral, she gets swept off her feet by a new man or reconnects with the Australian guy she was with years ago and David comes home without her?
I don't want anybody randomly killed off, whether a past or a present character; they do that far too often on Corrie.
Least of all Martin, as some "punishment" to Sean Wilson

I didn't say I wanted it, just that I could see it as a possibility. He'll obviously never be back now anyway.

Ok so if he had potentially only been back filming for one week rather than three it makes a bit more sense that they're scrapping all of his material.
They film out of sequence, so maybe they hadn't yet filmed his return scenes when he was shown the door, therefore the scenes they had already shot wouldn't have made sense and therefore couldn't be used.
When Julie Goodyear quit 2 weeks into her return, they'd already shot her big comeback episode so were able to air it as planned, then just had it mentioned that she'd left offscreen a few episodes later.
I'm guessing with Martin it wasn't a simple as that and the easiest thing to do is scrap the lot.
Still a very strange and worrying situation but not as dramatic as nearly a months worth of filming discarded of, which we were originally led to believe was the case.

I’ve not watched in a very long time. I was considering tuning back in for Gail’s episode, especially as I saw Martin was coming back. Don’t think I’ll bother now

Yes it definitely makes more sense if he only filmed for a week. He might not have filmed him actually coming back to the street for the first time, so they wouldn't have been able to use the scenes filmed as they were due later / in later episodes.
I just hope they are working round the clock to ensure Gail's exit is a classic and this doesn't spoil it for Helen and the long term viewers.

Dont hold your breath. They dont give a toss now even for classic characters, remember this is a show thats turned a legend into a village idiot

I really hope sean was not sacked for some un-savoury sexual allegations, if the show have sacked him over something like slating the way its run or leaking a story then it does seem a bit petty. By the sounds of it hes not had any bust up with fellow cast members

That explains why they scap all of his scenes.

Disappointed Martin won't be back, but I like the idea of Suzie Birchall reappearing to look after her old pal.
I know Cheryl Murray has been ill, would she be up to returning? Maybe not.3

"You churn if you want to but Martin Platt is not for churning"
...and then he walked out of the meeting and slammed the door on the ITV bosses.

its upsetting they aren't coming out and giving up an idea of what actually caused SW to exit and all this speculation could be awful for him. ITV should just do the right thing and give some kind of statement to whats happened instead of us speculating and wondering the worst possible things which could have happened.

I wonder what happened, like others have said I am sure it will come out at some point,
I think it is a shame, as I was one of the only ones that was happy he was going to come back, yes his final years ruined him as a character but re-watching the Classic Corrie from when he and Gail got together and had David I actually really liked them together so thought it was a sweet way to finish Helens time on the show better than killing her off, or just sending her off travelling and it tied in with her past
I don't watch Corrie regularly so I was surprised to read she hasn't been in the show since March
Sadly for all her years on the show I dont think her exit is going to be very memorable and will very likely be rushed

I beat you to it (post no 97 on page 4)
This would be an easy way to write Gail out, they only need to have her (or David) receive a phone call with the news, then film a scene of the two of them being waved off as they leave for the airport.

Oops, sorry - either lack of attention or forgetfulness or both. Great minds and all that!
